GENERAL INFORMATION
The Port Perry Skating Club is a non-profit organization approved by Skate Canada. It is administered by parent volunteers to serve the needs of the skaters, our children. It is expected that parents and older skaters volunteer some time or experience to the Club’s ventures. Check out the volunteer sheets at Registration Night. Our club is as strong as its volunteers and is getting stronger all the time.
All programs are subject to minimum and maximum enrollments, and subject to cancellation or changes in requirements. You will be notified of any changes to program schedules. Certain programs and the annual Carnival are subject to age restrictions.
ANNUAL CARNIVAL
Our year-end Carnival will be held on March 28, 2009 (tentative). Carnival practices will start approximately 4 weeks prior to show day and will also be posted on the Carnival page once available. Carnival rehearsals and photo night will be held during the week of March 23, 2009. Information sessions to provide complete details on Carnival will be held in February.
CANCELLATION OF ICE DUE TO TEST DAYS AND WEATHER
There will be no refunds for missed ice due to test days or inclement weather. We will notify you in advance regarding the upcoming test days and the local schools and radio stations will also be notified of cancellation due to the weather over the winter months.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The club’s Annual General Meeting will be held in April, 2009. Please watch the club's home web page under Coming Events for the actual date/time/location. This meeting is your chance to hear from the club's executive regarding the previous year's season. Nominations will also be accepted from individuals to serve on the following year's executive and to have input to the skating programs being offered.
FUNDRAISING PROGRAM
The Port Perry Skating Club is a non-profit organization. All programs are subsidized by club fundraising to keep program costs down. The primary method of fundraising for PPSC is the hosting of Youth Dances. These dances are usually held once per month for youth from grades 4 to 9. Volunteer parents are required for admission, ticket sales, coat check, snack bar, general supervision, security and clean-up. Parents must volunteer at 2 youth dances throughout the season. There will be a mandatory Fundraising Fee imposed of $100 per Family. A 100% refund of this fee is returned after volunteering for two dances. Parents with skaters only in the Preschool program or the Power Skating program are exempted from the fundraising fee and are not required to volunteer at the Youth Dances but are welcome to come and help out.
The schedule for 2008/2009 dances may be found on the Dances page once it is available. Please sign up for two dances on the bulletin board in Pad 2. You may not necessarily be contacted to remind you of your commitment. All dances are held at 7:00 p.m. at the Scugog Community Centre adjacent to the arena.
PROGRAM ASSISTANTS
Program Assistants are Intermediate or Senior skaters who assist our club coaches during CanSkate and Preschool programs. PAs provide coaching assistance to groups or to individual skaters, and also act as role models to our young skaters. Training will be provided. High school students can earn community service credits as PAs. If interested, please sign up on registration night.
MUSIC
Music is an integral part of figure skating – not only for individual solos but also for skills, compulsory dances, etc. We will require StarSkate parents to play the music for each and every session. A monthly Music schedule will be developed and communicated to all parents. If you can’t make a session, please make arrangements with another parent to trade. Also, if you see that someone has missed his or her slot, feel free to step in if you can – the skaters will appreciate it!
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
There will be a number of volunteer opportunities throughout the season where your participation is critical to the success of the club. Session reps will be required to hand out information and act as a communication point between parents, coaches and the executive team. The season ending carnival also has a number of volunteer opportunities. Please watch the newsletter and bulletin boards throughout the season. We are counting on you!

CODE OF CONDUCT POLICY
Any skater who displays inappropriate behaviour on or off the ice will be asked to leave the arena at the discretion of the Coach, PPSC Executive or arena staff. A skater who continues to display inappropriate behaviour will be permanently removed from the program.
GUEST SKATING
Guest skaters are only permitted from Skate Canada coaches affiliated with our club if all the needs of the registered skaters on that session have been met (had their music played and received their lesson). Guest skaters must be at the skill level of the other skaters on the ice. During particularly crowded group sessions, the Club reserves the right to limit the time and ice area, which may be used for private lessons. Skate
Canada members must receive Club permission to access the ice surface during a Club Session they have neither registered nor paid for. Permission requests are made through the Guest Skating Coordinator at least 48 hours in advance. Guest skating fee is $10 per hour for Club members. Non members of our Skating Club will be charged a skater’s guest fee of $20 per hour, maximum of 5 hours per season.
